Billing (Upset) Limit Methods

For each project, phase, or task, you can specify billing limit terms, also called upset limit terms. An upset limit is a maximum amount above which Deltek cannot bill.

On the Misc tab of the Billing Terms form, you select a Limit Method for the project, then enter limits for one or more categories of billings: Fee, Labor, Consultant, Expense, Unit, and Add-on.

If a limit has been exceeded, billings still appear on the invoice. An adjustment line, which offsets the amount by which the current billings exceed the limit, appears in the Billing Limits section of the invoice. The adjustment will never exceed the current billings, even if the limit has been reset to be below the previously billed amount.

Note that if you have set limits for a phase or a task from the Billing Terms Misc tab for the phase or task, and you want these limits to appear on the invoice, you must select the Limits by Phase or Limits by Task option on the appropriate Sub-Level Terms tab.

To display limits by phase, select the Sub-Level Terms tab from the project-level Billing Terms. To display limits by task, select the Sub-Level Terms tab from the phase-level Billing Terms.

Billing Limit Methods

Limit Method Summary
No limits No upset limits are applied.
Aggregate limit Deltek limits the job-to-date billing amount to the total of the entered limits. Current charges in excess of this total are not billed.

Deltek includes all entered limits in the total limit, whether or not there are associated billings on the invoice.

Deltek displays the total billings, total limit, aggregate adjustment, and remaining limit in the Billing Limits section of the invoice.

Individual limits You enter limits for one or more categories of billings; for example Fee Limit or Labor Limit. Deltek limits the job-to-date billing amount for each category that has an established limit, to the limit that you enter. Deltek does not bill current charges in excess of this limit.

Deltek displays the billings, limit, adjustment (if required), and remaining limit for each labor category (for which a limit has been established) in the Billing Limits section of the invoice. Categories appear if a limit has been established, whether or not there are billings for the category.

Current charges for categories without established limits are not billed.
