Field Description
Create Task In the drop-down, select the method you want to use to create the task:
  • Manually: The required fields are Task Number, Name, and Long Name.
  • From Project: Project is the only required field. In this work flow, after the Add Task Dialog, you can choose to create multiple tasks within the Adjust Project Structure dialog, so the task numbers, names, and long names default to the values in the existing tasks of the copied project, with one exception: if the task number already exists in the project to which the new task is being added, you must provide a unique task number before saving.
  • From Project Template: Project Template is the only required field. In this work flow, after the Add Task Dialog, you can choose to create multiple tasks within the Adjust Project Structure dialog, so the task numbers, names, and long names default to the values in the existing tasks of the project template, with one exception: if the task number already exists in the project to which the new task is being added, you must provide a unique task number before saving.
Task Number Only displayed if you select Manually in the Create Task field. Enter a unique number for the task.
Name Only displayed if you select Manually in the Create Task field. Enter a unique name for the task.
Long Name Only displayed if you select Manually in the Create Task field. Defaults to the entry in Name.
Project Only displayed if you select From Project in the Create Task field. The drop-down lists all the projects you have security rights to see.
Project Template Only displayed if you select From Project Template in the Create Task field. The drop-down lists all the templates you have security rights to see.
Continue Click Continue to add the tasks to the selected phase. The work flow after this dialog depends on which method you selected to create the tasks:
  • From Project: The next step in the work flow is the Adjust Project Structure Dialog, followed by the Edit Project Structure Grid. The field values for tasks in these dialogs default to the field values in the copied tasks.
  • From Project Template: The next step in the work flow is the Adjust Project Structure Dialog, followed by the Edit Project Structure Grid. The field values for tasks in the these dialogs default to the field values in the copied tasks.
  • Manually: The next step in the work flow is Add/Edit All Mode. The field values in Add/Edit All Mode are based on the field values at the project and phase levels. In some cases (estimated completion date, for example), you can change the default value for the task. In others the project values are displayed but can only be changed at the project level.
