Email Configuration
You can choose one of three email providers to handle your outbound mail from your PIM system, including Local SMTP, SMTP Relay, and Azure SMTP Client. You can also configure a number of global email settings, including the default from address and the mailbox alias.
The SMTP Relay and Azure SMTP Client provider options were added in PIM 23.0 as additional options to connect your on-premises PIM system to your organization's email architecture.
SMTP Relay | Facilitates the seamless transmission of emails from the PIM system configuration to your designated internal SMTP server or directly to your Office 365 (O365) SMTP endpoint. This approach provides a robust mechanism for handling email traffic within your organization. When employing SMTP Relay, it is imperative to take charge of security measures by configuring firewall rules and O365 Send Connectors in conjunction with your server's IP addresses. This setup may already be in place for your current mail configuration, particularly if it relies on your web server's local SMTP instance. |
Azure SMTP Client | Usesa Microsoft Azure (now Entra ID) authenticated mailbox as your primary email account within PIM. Your organization must have Azure AD for this. PIM sends emails over port 587 with TLS 1.2 encryption, using the authenticated mailbox user's identity. Note that this method is not recommended for large organizations that send lots of emails, as email processing is limited to 30 emails per minute and 10,000 recipients per day. |
Note: Only one provider can be enabled at any given time. To disable the active provider, you need to configure and enable an alternate provider.
