Publish Documents Stored in Network Folders
If your organization uses Universal Document Control (UDC) to map network folders to specific projects, you can publish those documents to PIM to utilize PIM's document control features.
When you publish files stored in mapped network folders to PIM, the files are removed from the network location and a shortcut to the latest revision in PIM is added in its place.
Snapshot Publish
If you are still working on a file but want to upload the latest version to PIM, you can choose to publish snapshots of files stored in mapped network folders. When you publish snapshots, the source files remain in place in their original network location, and you retain control of the files as you continue to work on them.
You can use snapshots to:
- Share the latest updates of a working file with your team to get their feedback.
- Import a batch of drawings into the Unclassified pool and then publish them to PIM using the Smart Bulk Superseder.
- Retain version history of working files stored in network folders.
Snapshots are read-only and cannot be edited. To update an unmanaged file, you must edit the original file stored in the mapped network folder. Bidirectional links are added to both the unmanaged document and the snapshot so that you can easily navigate between the two documents.
