SMTP Relay Mail Flow Provider
The SMTP Relay provider option offers an innovative way to streamline your email delivery process. With this option, you can send emails directly from your PIM system to either your internal Exchange server or an external Office 365 mail instance, all without the need to route messages through the local SMTP instance on your PIM web server.
The SMTP Relay provider is designed to operate as a server-to-server function, differentiating it from authenticated client mailbox methods. As a result, there is no user logon method involved. Instead, security is enforced through the precise application of IP range rules, which exclusively permit traffic originating from the PIM server for processing - whether within the Exchange environment or Office 365 Admin Console.
For data transmission, the SMTP Relay provider utilizes port 25, recognized as the server-to-server mail port. It ensures that all communication is securely encrypted at a minimum TLS 1.2 level, adhering to industry-standard security protocols to safeguard the integrity of your email transmissions. Consequently, it's imperative to verify that your server has the TLS 1.2 port open. While the mail transmission remains anonymous and doesn't employ Windows or Basic authentication methods, it is safeguarded by the IP relay rules.
Usage Recommendations
SMTP Relay is particularly well-suited for larger PIM environments where a high volume of emails needs to be efficiently managed. This method of email delivery operates at the server-to-server level and does not require user authentication.
