Element Form for Families, Sections, and Product Types

For family, section, and product type elements, use the element form to review and modify content items in your A/E firm's project.

On the element form, the following content items are available and these items adhere to the following hierarchy:

  • Part
    • Article
      • Level 1 Paragraph
        • Level 2 Paragraph
          • Level 3 Paragraph
            • Level 4 Paragraph
              • Level 5 Paragraph

On the element form, the following content items are available:

Item Description
Parts These parts organize the contents of a project element by functional nature. The following parts are available:
  • General
  • Products
  • Execution
These parts display as element tabs on the element form and serve as the first outline level for each family and product type.

See Element Tabs (Parts).

Article This is a group of paragraphs and is the second outline level.

See Article.

Level 1 Paragraph This paragraph is a property or description on the third outline level.

See Paragraph.

Level 2 to 5 Paragraphs These paragraphs are properties or descriptions on the fourth and succeeding outline levels. These paragraphs are also subparagraphs of the respective paragraphs above them.
Notes to Specifier Elements, articles, and paragraphs can include notes for your firm's design professionals. Each note serves as guidance for specifying specific content in your project specifications.

The available content items depend on the currently selected element. You can perform actions on articles and paragraphs on this form only when the selected element is active in the project. The project element retains the modifications that you make to content items as long as the element is in the project. When you remove an element from the project, Specpoint discards all modifications to the content items from the project element.

For families that exist under multiple assemblies, the element form displays the same parts, articles, and paragraphs for all instances of the family. When you modify the articles and paragraphs under a shared family, your modifications reflect in all instances of the shared family. Likewise, for product types that exist under multiple families, the same rules on shared form contents and modifications apply.

For elements that you have not yet added to the project, you can use this form to review their available articles and paragraphs. This enables you to determine whether a project element fits your project requirements prior to adding it into your project specifications.

Design Automation

To maintain the structure of the element contents, Specpoint enforces multiple limits to your actions based on the element content type and the current context. Moreover, for each action that you perform on an article or paragraph on the element form, Specpoint automatically makes adjustments to related contents.

For more information, see Design Automation for Element Contents.

Preview and Export Shortcut

The workspace toolbar provides options for previewing or exporting a section. After you completed your modifications to a family, section, or product type, you can preview the element in a traditional section view. This enables you to preview how the contents of the element display when you export the section or the project manual.

In addition, you can also export a family, section, or product type as both a PDF file and a DOCX file. This allows you to share and store content outside the platform without exporting the entire project manual.

For more information, see Preview and Export and Included Contents in the Section Preview and Exported Files.
