Product Type Property

A product type property is a paragraph that describes a product requirement for your project specifications. In Specpoint, you can use paragraphs for product type properties to refine your product selection.

The following is an example of a product type property under the Aluminum Windows product type:

For any given product type that you add to your project as a requirement, a product type property identifies one characteristic of that product type and provides a description or measure of that characteristic. For example, under the Aluminum Windows product type:
  • One product type property or characteristic is Filling.
  • One description or value of that property is argon.

Typically, MasterSpec groups product type properties based on related characteristics, product components, etc.

Product Addition and Removal

For product type properties, your option set selections aid in the product selection of your A/E firm's project specifications. When you select an option, Specpoint filters the product listings in the Product Listings window to show only listings that have option/value selections for their product properties that match your selection in the product type property paragraph. This ensures that you can only select product listings that fit the product requirements that you specified.

Likewise, in the product listings window, when you add a product listing to your project, option sets of associated product type properties will have options selected that match the product properties of the added listing. This automated change does not apply to product type properties in which you already selected options from their option sets.

For more information, see Design Automation for Product Selection.

If you add multiple product listings to your project and these product listings have conflicting product properties, Specpoint displays the respective product type properties and options from the properties' option sets with a red outline. This feature informs you of conflicting selections in product type properties that exist in your project.
