Element of Cost Chart

The Element of Cost chart on the Detail Analysis tab displays the cumulative cost variance by period, broken down by Element of Cost (EOC). The chart supports up to a maximum of 14 EOCs.

A similar chart, the Element of Cost Breakdown chart, is available on the Element of Cost tab. This chart does not have the total cost variance line.

Chart Format

By default, the Element of Cost chart is a stacked bar chart with a superimposed line chart. Use the Fast Change icon () to switch to a straight table that displays the actual data values. You can also view the table in Excel by clicking .

Chart Item Description
Horizontal axis The horizontal axis displays the range of periods.
Vertical axis The vertical axis displays the range of cost variance amounts for the selected elements.
Bars Each bar represents the cumulative cost variance as of that period for the selected elements.

Each segment of the bar represents the portion of the total cost variance for one of the EOCs.

Line Each data point on the line represents the cumulative cost variance as of that period for all EOCs.

Chart Data

The Element of Cost chart displays the following data for each period:

Data Item Description
Cost variance Cumulative cost variance amount for the indicated period.
Element of cost amount Amount that each element of cost contributed to the total cumulative cost variance for the indicated period.

To see the total cost variance amount for a period, position the mouse pointer on that data point on the line chart. The Total CV amount and any elements of cost for that period display in a data box.

To see the data for each element of cost unit, position the mouse pointer on a corresponding segment on the bar chart. If the segment for an element of cost is too thin to display the amount automatically, maximize the chart and position the mouse pointer on that segment of the bar.
