The Resources tab contains a list of resources assigned to the activity. The quantity column displays the total amount that will be spread over the duration of the activity. The units come from the resource definition as the one stored in Open Plan or imported through the general import and cannot be changed in this view.
At the work package level, you can see the costs that were calculated by adding resource assignments to activities. Since the cost system does not calculate nor store costs at the activity level, when you select an activity in the Change Details grid, the Resources tab is enabled and the Costs tab is disabled.
When making a change request, use the Resources tab to complete the following tasks:
If the Workflow Type Configuration option Model Change as is set to A New or Change Amount, you may not edit existing resource assignments. In order to delete a resource assignment or reduce hours, you must insert a new line and enter a negative value to indicate a change. In order to increase hours, you must insert a new line and enter a positive value to indicate a change. Upon final approval of the change request, the delta hours will be rolled into the final budget.
The Resources tab displays the following fields and options:
This field displays the Activity ID for the activity you selected in the Change Details grid. The field name is Work Package / Activity and the field displays Work Package ID / Activity ID.
This field displays a description of the selected activity.
This field displays the status of the selected activity: Planned, In-Progress, or Complete.

Through the Time-phased view on the Resources tab in Change Details, you can view and edit activity-level resource assignments across the early dates for planned activities in a time-phased manner.
The Time-phased view displays the following columns for each resource assignment.
Column |
Description |
Resource ID |
This column displays the unique ID of the resource. For example, ENG could represent an engineer. This column displays ID's for all resources associated with the project. If no resources are assigned to the selected project, the Time Phased grid will be blank. Click to search for and select a new resource. The information used in the look-up comes from your scheduling system. The list is filtered to include only those resources that have been assigned to the project. If you need to assign a resource that is not already assigned to the project, make a note of that resource in the Notes tab. When you select a Resource ID, the Description and Unit will automatically be displayed. |
Description |
This column displays the description of the resource. |
Change Number |
If you change the resource assignments on an activity, this column displays the Change Number. If no changes have been made to the resource assignment, this column is blank regardless of cost class entries on the assignment in Open Plan. |
Units |
This column displays the unit of measure assigned to the resource in Open Plan. |
Total |
This column displays the total amount for all the time-phased periods. If you update the amount of the resource assignment for any time-phased period, the Total column displays the sum of the time-phased periods, and the cost class is replaced with the change number. If you update the Total column value, the values in the time-phased periods are adjusted proportionally, and the cost class is replaced with the change number. |
Time-phased Periods |
The column header dates come from the Open Plan Reporting calendar selected on the Cost tab of the Project Properties dialog box. For more information, see Defining Time-phased Periods for Resource Assignments on Activities. This column displays the amount of the resource assignment for each time-phased period. |
The dates for the selected resource displayed on the Resource tab in Change Details are similar to the information displayed in the Time-Phase view on the Resources tab of the Activity Details dialog box in Open Plan.
The time phasing of the resource assignment’s periods is based on the reporting calendar in Open Plan. Therefore, make sure that the reporting calendar in the schedule matches the Cobra calendar. If you have previously exported the reporting calendar, you must export it again using Cobra to include the day the period ends.
New or Change Amount Workflow Type
If your workflow type is configured as A New or Change Amount, you will not be able to edit existing resource assignments. However, you will be able to add or insert a duplicate resource. In this scenario, the Time-phased view will display two rows for the same resource, with the newly inserted resource identified with the change number.
Replacement Workflow Type
If your workflow type is configured as A Replacement of Existing Time Phased Data, you will be able to edit the Total and Time-phased period columns of any existing resource assignments for planned activities.
All changes to the activities, their resource assignments, and relationships are recorded in the schedule change log.
When you add a new resource assignment, you identify a curve. The assignment is then spread over the periods (based on the duration) using that curve. If you subsequently change the activity duration, the assignments are spread over the new duration using the same curve.
After you add an assignment to an activity, you can update individual periods. This changes the way the assignments are saved in the database. When you change the time-phased values, a record for each period is saved in the database using offsets and periods to define the amount in each period. This will increase the amount of data and may negatively affect the performance of Open Plan.
When you increase the duration of an activity, if the resource has offsets and periods, new periods created by the duration change will have zeroes. If the resource is defined using a spread, the assignment is respread over the new duration. If the resource has offsets and periods, new periods created by the duration change will have zeroes.
When you shorten the activity duration and click the Resources tab, the resource assignments are adjusted.
If the resource is defined using a spread, the assignment is respread over the new duration.
If the resource has offsets and periods, PM Compass displays a dialog box with the following options:
Respread the existing assignments within the request date
Retain the existing spread and delete the assignments beyond the activity
