BILLS OF MATERIAL OVERVIEW

Use Costpoint Bills of Material to set up and maintain the hierarchical relationship of parts as a bill of material (BOM) structure. You can plan and produce manufactured/purchased items, as well as plan and design parts/assemblies in an engineering environment.

Costpoint Bills of Material allows you to customize setup, establish/release manufacturing bills of material (MBOMs) for production planning and material requirements planning (MRP), and establish/release engineering bills of material (EBOMs). You can also make online BOM inquiries to view assemblies, and single-level or multi-level components of assemblies. Moreover, you can copy MBOMs and EBOMs into one another to allow a seamless exchange of part information between manufacturing and engineering environments. You also have a choice of reports for various modes of reporting and analysis.

If you selected the Separate Items By Company check box in the Configure Product Definition Settings screen, new items and documents will automatically be linked to the company of the user entering the item or document. Users logged into other companies cannot use these BOMs. You can also have multiple BOM records that are linked to different companies with the same assembly part (and revisions, if the Allow Multiple Revisions for Each Item check box is also selected in the Configure Product Definition Settings subtask).

If you did not select the Separate Items by Company check box, all items and documents in the database will be available to users in all companies. The MBOM or EBOM created for an assembly part (and revisions, if applicable) will apply to all companies. Users logged in to any company can use these BOMs.
