Product Type Article or Product Type Paragraph

Use a product type article or a product type paragraph to represent a product type in the actual specification content. These content items enable you to work with product type-specific specification content in context within a family, section, and product type.

The availability of a product type article or a product type paragraph depends on the structure of the product type and its relationship to the parent family and assemblies. These content items provide a structured container for product type-specific requirements and properties. You can find these articles and paragraphs in Part 2 - Products of the family, section, and product type.

Product Type Articles

A product type article organizes multiple paragraphs that apply to a specific product type. A product type articles contains content specific to a product type, such as its Manufacturers paragraph, Basis-of-Design (BOD) Product paragraph, and product type properties.

Product type articles appear only when the product type content is structured at the article level.

A product type article has an article title that matches the name of its corresponding product type element. The new workspace editor displays this article with a Product Designation field and the following icon: .

Product Type Paragraphs

A product type paragraph represents a product type at the paragraph level. It functions in one of two ways:
  • As a single‑paragraph product type, where all product type content is defined in one paragraph
  • As a parent paragraph that contains product type-specific paragraphs, such as its Manufacturers paragraph, BOD Product paragraph, and product type properties

A product type paragraph has a property key or paragraph title that matches the name of its corresponding product type. The new workspace editor displays this paragraph with a Product Designation field and the following icon: . This paragraph can also contain paragraph content and option sets for project‑specific values.

Working with Product Types at the Family Level

Product type articles and product type paragraphs allow you to manage product types in context at the family or section level, rather than limiting them to standalone elements. This contextual view clarifies how product types relate to surrounding specification content and supports more informed project decisions.
