  • Phrase:Returns all topics that contain the exact phrase in the search criteria. Use quotation marks around the phrase.
    Ex."system administration"
  • And:Returns all topics that contain all the words in the search criteria, in any combination. Insert a plus sign between all words in the search criteria.
    Ex.system + administration
  • Or:Returns all topics with any combination of words in the search criteria. This is the default.

Edit Relationship Dialog Box

Use this dialog box to edit a relationship between activities. It defines the relationships between activities using the following settings:

  • Predecessor: The ID of the activity that logically precedes the relationship.
  • Successor: The ID of the activity that logically succeeds the relationship.
  • Type: There are four types of relationships: finish-to-start, finish-to-finish, start-to-start, and start-to-finish. The default for the relationship type is finish-to-start.
  • Lag: The time delay associated with the relationship. Lag can be either positive or negative. Negative lag is sometimes called "lead." The default for the relationship lag is zero. If you enter a numeric value without a unit identifier, Open Plan assumes the default units specified for the project. If, on a start-to-start relationship, you enter a numeric value followed by %, Open Plan assumes the value to be a percentage of the predecessor's duration.
  • Calendar: The calendar upon which Open Plan bases calculations for any lag in the relationship. If you do not enter a calendar, Open Plan uses the calendar of the activity’s successor by default.

You can use a finish-to-start relationship with negative lag to model a start-to-start relationship. This has the advantage of keeping the predecessor and successor activities in parallel even if work on the predecessor activity is halted for some reason.

Note: You can also add, edit, and delete data for predecessors and successors directly in a cell of any activity-based spreadsheets. The Activity Predecessors and Activity Successors columns display the predecessor/successor ID, relationship type, and lag of the relationship (which is optional and may be negative) in each cell using the format <Predecessor/Successor ID><space><relationship type><+/-Lag>. For example, 1.02 SF+3d.
