Understanding the Different Date Sets

This topic includes an overview of each date type. For additional information, see:

In general, when you first access Change Details, the requested dates for activities are calculated based on Time Now, and relationships using the Critical Path Method (CPM). The work packages are then updated to span the activities, and the control accounts are updated to span the work packages. After returning from a modeling session, the dates displayed are those that were calculated during the modeling session.

Requested Dates

When in the Change Details view and looking at the grid portion, the column labeled "Requested Start” and “Requested Finish” are how the change request is going to change the baseline dates (for a budget change request) or the Forecast dates (for a forecast change request). The columns labeled “Baseline Start” and “Baseline Finish” are the existing dates.

Activity Dates

When you access the view, the requested dates in the grid are calculated based on the CPM.

Work Package Dates

When the activity dates are updated, the work package dates are adjusted to span the activities.

When you first access the Change Details view, and there are planned activities below the work package with dates before the beginning of the period, you will have to expand the work package node and display the activities for the work package dates to update. When this occurs, there is not an entry in the cost change log because the work package dates were "auto updated" based on the schedule calculation.

If you do not expand the work package to display the activities, and these activities are flagged with a Y or Yes in the PMC Update Baseline Dates field during the modeling session, the work package dates will be adjusted by the integration. When you access the Change Details view after the modeling session, it does not matter if you expand the work package node or not; the work packages will display dates based on the activities and the schedule integration. Since the work package dates were changed based on the schedule integration, there will not be a record in the cost change log showing the work package date has changed. Instead, there will be mention of the work package date change in the schedule integration process log found on the Links tab.

Control Account Dates

Activity Dates

After returning from a modeling session, the dates are not calculated. Instead, the dates displayed are those that were calculated during the modeling session.

Work Package Dates and Control Account Dates

The work package and Control Account dates are calculated during the integration.

When there are no activities below, the work packages are manually changed.
