When you add a new activity to a work package, the start date is set to the start date of the work package. To delay the start of an activity, use activity relationships instead of constraint dates.
Use this procedure to add a relationship to an activity in the Change Details View.
To add a relationship to an activity, complete the following steps:
On the Navigation menu, click Workflows » Change Management » select a Change Request.
In the List View, select the Change Request.
On the General tab of the Change Request Form, click the Change Details button. The Change Details view and barchart displays.
Select the activity to which you want to add a relationship.
On the Relationships tab, select either the whole row or a cell in the row below which you want to insert the new relationship.
Click Insert.
In the Predecessor field, click Search to display the Predecessor Search dialog box where you can search for and select the activity that will precede the currently selected activity.
The list is filtered to include only those activities that are related to the current control account. This lookup lists all activities for the CA or WP including newly inserted activities. If you need to link to an activity in a different control account, make a note of that relationship in the Notes tab.
In the Type field, select the type of relationship. The relationship type defaults to Finish to Start.
In the Successor field, click Search to display the Successor Search dialog box where you can search for and select the activity that will follow the currently selected activity.
The list is filtered to include only those activities that are related to the current control account. This lookup lists all activities for the CA or WP including newly inserted activities. If you need to link to an activity in a different control account, make a note of that relationship in the Notes tab.
In the Lag field, enter the amount of lag required. Lags are durations and if you enter only a number, the default duration unit defined on the Preferences tab of Project Properties is assumed (example: d-days, w-weeks, m-months).
Click Save.
Click a hyperlink in the Predecessor or Successor field to view detailed information about the predecessor or successor activity, including information for activities that are outside of the current control account. See External Predecessors and Successors for more information on external relationships.
