Insert an Activity

Use this procedure to insert an activity to an existing Work Package. See Activities Overview for more information on the definition of an activity.

Before you begin, review Rules for Editing Change Details Data.

To insert an Activity, complete the following steps:

  1. On the Navigation menu, click Workflows » Change Management » select a Change Request.

  2. In the List View, select the Change Request to which you want to add an activity.

  3. On the General tab of the Change Request Form, click the Change Details button. The Change Details view and barchart displays.

Tip: Maximize the Change Details screen in order to see all the options on the Change Details view grid toolbar.

  4. In the Change Details grid, do one of the following:

Insert the activity under the correct work package as you cannot reassign it to another work package after it has been created.

  5. Click Insert Activity. A new unique activity ID is created automatically and uses the following format: <changeNumber>_7-digit random number.

If the work package is completed, you will not be able to add new activities.

The new activity start date is set to the start date of the Work Package. If you need to delay the start of the activity, use activity relationships.

  6. Edit the activity fields in the grid and on the tabs as needed.

The default information on the tabs and in the grid is there to guide you. If you are not familiar with a term or the reason for a field, Deltek recommends that you keep the default setting. All editable field information can be entered in the grid or on the tabs. When you edit activity information, it is best to work through the tabs from left to right (that is, from the General tab to the Link tab).

You can change the default information on the grid or tabs before or after you save a new activity.

  7. Click Save. The new activity displays on the barchart and the Requested Forecast Date fields are populated. In addition, the Requested Forecast Date fields for any successor activities that are affected by the change are populated.

A newly created activity does not have any Baseline dates.
