Use this procedure to utilize resource scheduling information.
To use resource scheduling information:
-
Perform time analysis, and evaluate the schedule.
-
If the dates produced by time analysis are later than those acceptable to your organization, replan the project.
If you make any changes to the project at this stage, run time analysis again before proceeding.
-
Perform Time Limited or Resource Limited resource scheduling, as required, and compare the scheduled dates with the early and late dates calculated by time analysis.
In resource-limited scheduling, a difference between an activity's early start date and its earliest feasible date indicates that resource bottlenecks earlier in the project are producing delays in the schedule.
-
Display a resource histogram view to identify cases of resource over utilization.
Note: A histogram view compares resource requirements to availabilities.
-
Make any needed adjustments to the resource usage in any of the following ways:
- By substituting under-utilized resources for those that are over-utilized
- By permitting Open Plan to split, stretch, or reprofile activities whose durations can be interrupted
- By selecting a different processing option and rerunning resource scheduling
- By recalculating the schedule
-
Repeat the entire procedure as needed to develop a workable schedule.
