Interproject Calculations

When performing interproject calculations, Open Plan takes into account only the information that is available.

Therefore, the way in which Open Plan performs calculations on projects containing external subprojects depends on whether or not the external subprojects are open at the time the calculations are performed:

  • If the external subproject is open, Open Plan performs calculations on all activities in the hierarchical project. When the project is saved, the results of the calculations are saved to the open external subproject.
  • If the external subproject is not open, Open Plan performs time analysis by treating the early and late dates stored for the external subproject as though they were On Target dates and does not write new target start and finish dates back to the subproject when the processing is complete.

Open Plan uses the following conventions when calculating dates for projects containing foreign activities:

  • During the forward pass, Open Plan treats an early date from a foreign activity as though it were a Not Earlier Than target date.
  • During the backward pass, Open Plan treats a late date from a foreign activity as though it were a Not Later Than target date.

The dates on the foreign activities themselves are not affected by time analysis.

If no dates exist for a foreign activity, Open Plan treats the activity as any other activity and stores a message to that effect in the session log.
