Effect of Reservations on Resource Scheduling

Open Plan offers the ability to reserve resources for particular projects, either for all time or for specific periods.

Resource Scheduling does not include resource availability reserved for another project. The effect of reservations on resource scheduling depends on the type of resource scheduling that is performed and the options that have been set.

  • Resource-Limited Resource Scheduling: In general, resource-limited resource scheduling restricts resource usage to availabilities that have not been reserved for another project. However, exceptions are made to this rule under the following circumstances:
    • In the case of external subprojects, Open Plan may use resources that have been reserved for the master project or any higher-level subprojects in the hierarchy.
    • If a threshold has been set on the resource record, Open Plan may use the reserved resource availability to the extent permitted by the threshold.
  • Time-Limited Resource Scheduling: When performing time-limited resource scheduling, Open Plan may use any resource availability even though it may have been totally reserved to another project. An exception to this rule applies when the hard zero option is set. Under this circumstance, Open Plan may not use the reserved resource availability.

External Subproject Activity

When an activity belongs to an external subproject, the availability considered for scheduling that particular activity includes:

  • The availability reserved for the subproject
  • Any higher-level subprojects to which it belongs
  • The main project
