User Defined Validations Overview
User defined validations allow you to define and apply your own rules and business logic.
This ensures that the data you enter into schedules meets corporate and industry best practice guidelines and reduces re-work when subsequent schedule quality audits are performed.
The rules or validations are applied on a per project basis, which means different organizations or customers can have different rules or standards. Open Plan applies these rules each time you save your information.
Validation Rules
You can set validation rules so that Open Plan validates your data before it is processed. These rules verify that the information you provided is accurate, valid, and secure before saving into Open Plan. Specific error messages display when fields or tables are not validated successfully. This helps you identify what you must do to clean or correct the errors using an acceptable format.
Manage Validation Rules
- Create, copy or edit: You can create, copy, or edit a condition (sort, filter, calculated field, or global edit expression) for your validation rule.
- Delete: You cannot delete a rule that is assigned to a project. You can click References on the User Defined Validations dialog box to check the list of projects or files assigned to a rule. You need to disassociate the validation rule from the project before you can delete the rule.
- Assign to a project: You can assign an existing rule to a project. Before you perform this procedure, make sure that you have already defined the rule or the rule that you need already exists.
- Remove from a project: You can remove a rule when it is no longer relevant to the project.
Assigning Rules to Projects
You can assign newly defined or existing rules to projects in the following ways:
- On the Tools tab, click User Validations in the Manage menu group to display the User Defined Validations dialog box. Click Assign to display the Assign User Defined Validations dialog box where you can assign rules.
- On the Edit tab, click Properties in the Dialogs menu group to display the Project Properties dialog box. Use the Validations tab to assign or remove rules from the project.
