Modification of Element Contents

Use this reference to learn about the multiple rules that apply and the changes that Specpoint makes to related content items when you modify the contents of a project element.

  • You can modify only the title of a user-added article.
  • For a given element tab or part under a family, section, or product type, you must enter a unique title for an article.

Paragraph or Property Set
  • For a baseline paragraph, you can modify only the paragraph contents.
  • For a user-added paragraph, you can modify the property title/key and contents of the paragraph.
  • Under a given article or parent paragraph, you must enter a unique property title for a paragraph.
  • For families that exist under multiple assemblies, the element form displays the same parts, articles, and paragraphs for all instances of the family. When you modify the paragraphs under a shared family, Specpoint applies all your modifications to all instances of the shared family.
  • For product types that exist under multiple families, the same rule (for shared families) on shared form contents and modifications apply.

    This does not apply product types under multiple sections in MasterFormat.

  • When you enter a value in a text field ([Insert]) in an option set, Specpoint clears your existing selections for options ((Option)) in the same option set.
  • When you select an option ((Option)) from an option set, Specpoint clears your existing entry for a text field ([Insert]) in the same option set.
Shared Property None When you modify a shared property, Specpoint updates all instances of the paragraph in all families and/or product types that share it.
Product Type Property For product types, you cannot modify options and units of a product type property. You can only select available options or enter values.

For further modifications, you can add a new paragraph and enter the desired content.

When you select an option from an option set of a product type property, Specpoint filters the product listings in the Product Listings window to show only listings that have options/values for their product properties that match your selection in the product type property paragraph.
Manufacturer Paragraph None When you select an option (which pertains to a manufacturer) from an option set of a manufacturer paragraph:
  • For the product type and related families or sections, Specpoint selects options from the option sets of the related product type properties based on the product property values/options of the selected manufacturer.
  • In the Product Listings window, Specpoint adds the latest associated manufacturer listing to your project.
When you clear a selected option (which pertains to a manufacturer) from an option set of a manufacturer paragraph:
  • For the product type and related families or sections, Specpoint clears the respective selected options from the option sets of the related product type properties.

    The options that Specpoint clears are the options that Specpoint automatically added.

  • In the Product Listings window, Specpoint removes the associated manufacturer listing from your project.
BOD Product Paragraph None When you enter a BOD product or select a comparable product in a BOD product paragraph:
  • For the product type and related families or sections, Specpoint selects options from the option sets of the related product type properties based on the product property values/options of the selected/entered product listing.
  • In the Product Listings window, Specpoint adds the associated product listing to your project.
When you clear a BOD product or a comparable product in a BOD product paragraph:
  • For the product type and related families or sections, Specpoint clears the respective selected options from the option sets of the related product type properties.

    The options that Specpoint clears are the options that Specpoint automatically added.

  • In the Product Listings window, Specpoint removes the associated product listing from your project.
