Contents of the Element Library

Use the contents of the element library to view and manage both MasterSpec elements and published office master elements, which your firm's projects use as baseline content.

Navigate to the following contents:

Element Library Action Bar

On this action bar, the following options are available:

Option Description
Assemblies Click this option to activate or deactivate the Assembly or UniFormat® view in the element library and the Elements pane.
Divisions Click this option to activate or deactivate the Divisions or MasterFormat® view in the element library and the Elements pane.

Elements Pane

This pane enables you to select an assembly or division. This selection loads the assembly's families or the division's sections into the element library.

Library Contents

In the element library, the following items are available:

Item Description
Families This lists the available families/sections based on your selected assembly or division in the Elements pane. This includes both MasterSpec families and published unique office master families.

You can click a family to view its different versions, if applicable, and open it in the Family Details pane.

Versions This lists the available versions of your selected family.

You can click the arrow buttons ( or ) to scroll through the available version.

For each version, the following items are available:

Item Description
Title This indicates the project element type, which is Family or Section, and code.
Version Identifier This indicates the family's version type. The following types are available:
  • MasterSpec: This indicates that the version is the base MasterSpec family.
  • OM: This indicates that the version is an office master version of the family.
Primary This indicates that the version is the primary version, which is family that is currently used in all of your projects by default. Only one version can be the primary version.
Work Item This indicates that the version has a work item on the office master dashboard.

Family Element Contents

For each family element, the following items are available:

Item Description
Work Item Indicator This indicates that the family has at least one version that has a work item on the office master dashboard.
Collapsed or Expanded Indicator This indicates whether you expanded or collapsed the family. The following icons are available:
  • : This indicates that you collapsed the family and hid its versions.
  • : This indicates that you expanded the family and displayed its versions.
Title This indicates the name of the family.
Identifier This indicates the project element's type, which is Family or Section, and code.

Family Details Pane

In the Family Details pane, the following items are available:

Item Description
Create Work Item This option is available only for families with at least one published office master version.
Click this option to open the Create Work Item dialog box and create a work item for one of the family's versions. This enables you to work on the office master family's contents in the office master workspace. For creating a work item, the following types are available:
  • Clone a MasterSpec family to create a new office master version of the family with same content, structure, and links as the MasterSpec version. This allows you to use MasterSpec content as a starting point for your custom firm-level content.

    You can make multiple clones for a given MasterSpec family.

  • Create a work item for a version of an office master family to modify content, such as articles and paragraphs, in the version.
Family This displays the name of the family that you selected.
Rename This option is available only for families with at least one published office master version.

Click this button to rename the family in the element library.

For families with multiple office master versions, click this button to open the Rename Office Masters dialog box, where you can select which version of the family to rename.

Export Click this button to export the family as a DOCX file.

For families with multiple office master versions, click this button to open the Export Office Master dialog box, where you can select which version of the family to export.

Preview Click this button to preview the family's contents in a traditional family view or similar to the view of a project output.

For families with multiple office master versions, click this button to open the Preview Office Master dialog box, where you can select which version of the family to preview.

Delete This option is available only for families with at least one published office master version.

Click this button to delete the office master family.

For families with multiple office master versions, click this button to open the Delete Office Master dialog box, where you can select which version of the family to delete.

Version List This lists the available versions for the selected family.

Family Details Pane - Version List

For each version listed in the Family Details pane, the following items are available:

Item Description
Version Name This displays the name of the version in the following format:

Section <Element> - <Version Name>

Primary Click the radio button to set the version as primary, which is family that is currently used in all of your projects by default. Only one version can be the primary version.
Last Updated This indicates the date when the office master version was last updated.
Last Updated By This indicates the user who last updated the office master version.
Created This indicates the date when the office master version was created, which is either when the office master family was imported or when the work item based on the MasterSpec version was created.

This field is not available for MasterSpec versions or office master versions based cloned from the MasterSpec version.

Created By This indicates the user who created the office master version.
