Resource Structures in Open Plan
Resources in Open Plan use a self-defining coding structure in which periods within the resource codes are used to distinguish between different hierarchical levels.
This convention is sometimes referred to as a "punctuated significant coding system." Resources at a higher level in the hierarchy are referred to as "resource pools" in Open Plan.
With resource pools, you can roll up resource availabilities, assignments, and usage for reporting purposes. However, information entered at the pool level (for example, unit costs) are not inherited by the members of that pool.
If the Show Full ID option is selected in Resource Display Preferences dialog box (launched by clicking Preferences from the View tab or from the context menu when you click the workspace), you can tell just by inspecting a resource where it should appear in the structure.
The following figure shows an example of part of a resource file. In this example, BCI.RSH.PEB is a child of BCI.RSH, which is a child of BCI.
In the Enterprise edition of Open Plan, you can view the multiple resource hierarchies by scrolling the resource view.
