Cost Tab
This tab displays summary information about the costs associated with an activity.

| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| ID |
An activity ID can consist of from 1 to 59 characters, including the periods that are used to indicate hierarchical levels. IDs containing the following four symbols " , | ; are used as delimiters in Open Plan and may cause problems when importing or exporting data. The activity ID serves as the default sort order for most views and reports. Although Open Plan supports almost any activity numbering system, most organizations use activity IDs that have some significance built in such as a prefix that refers to the project. Another approach might be to use the activity ID to associate activities with specific elements in a work breakdown structure. Attention: For information on automatic numbering, see
Automatic Numbering.
|
| Description |
A description can contain up to 60 characters. You may use both upper- and lowercase characters. By default, Open Plan defines the maximum field lengths of 59 characters for activity and resource IDs, and 60 characters for activity descriptions, resource descriptions, code IDs, and code descriptions. It is possible, however, to modify the standard data structure and data dictionary so that any of these field lengths can be as long as 255 characters for new projects. Attention: For information about customizing the Open Plan standard data structure and data dictionary, contact the Deltek technical support staff.
|
| Original Duration |
May be entered on any tab of the Activity Details dialog box except the Notes tab. This value should represent the most likely duration for the activity. Durations may use any of the following duration units:
While a duration may contain decimal values (for example, 4.5 D), you cannot enter duration using mixed duration units. (For example, 4D4H is not allowed.) Open plan interprets an activity with a blank duration field as having zero duration. You can use decimal values for durations (for example, 1.5d), but you cannot mix date formats by entering durations such as 1w2d. If you enter a duration that is not consistent with fixed target start and finish dates for the activity, Open Plan will use the duration implied by the target dates when performing time analysis and resource scheduling calculations. You can avoid having to specify a time unit when entering durations by assigning a default duration unit for a project through the Preferences tab on the Project Properties dialog box. If the activity type is Subproject, Hammock, Effort Driven, or External Subproject, Open Plan ignores any value you enter in this field and recalculates the duration each time you perform time analysis. |
| Remaining Duration |
This field represents the duration remaining for the activity. |
Grid
The grid on this tab displays the following cost information about the activity.
Labor Quantity
Open Plan displays the following values in this row for the resource assignments on the activity that have a category of Labor:
| Cost | Description |
|---|---|
| BAC | This value represents the total number of labor resource units budgeted for the activity. The Labor Quantity BAC is stored in the BAC_QTY field in the Activity table. The manner in which this value is calculated depends on whether the
Use Version 2 Cost Calculation Method option is selected on the Cost tab of the Project Properties dialog box:
|
| BCWS | This value represents the budgeted quantity of labor for the work scheduled for the activity from the baseline start date of the activity until Time Now.
This value is stored in the BCWS_QTY field on the Activity table and is calculated during cost calculations by summing the original (budgeted) labor resource quantity (RES_USED) value in the Performance Measurement Baseline (PMB) in the Baseline Usage table from the baseline start date until Time Now. By always using the PMB when it is available, Open Plan provides consistency and reliability. If there is no baseline named PMB, Open Plan uses the currently selected baseline, or, in the case of multiple selected baselines, the baseline identified as Baseline 1. If the project contains baselines, but none is selected or named PMB, Open Plan prompts you to select a baseline during cost calculations. If the project has no baselines, BCWS will not be calculated. |
| BCWP | This value represents the earned value of labor resource units budgeted for the activity. The Labor Quantity BCWP for the activity is stored in the BCWP_QTY field on the Activity table and is calculated during cost calculations by summing the earned value of resource labor units (BCWP_QTY) in the Resource Cost table.
The earned value of resource labor units (BCWP_QTY) in the Resource Cost Table is calculated during cost calculations, by multiplying the physical percent complete of the assignment by the original (budgeted) labor resource quantity (RES_USED) value in the Performance Measurement Baseline (PMB) on the Baseline Usage table. If the project has no baselines and the Version 2 Cost Calculation Method is selected on the Cost tab of the Project Properties dialog box, Open Plan calculates BCWP by summing the values in the Level field of the Assignment table adjusted for any curve, offset, or period that may be defined. Each time you calculate costs, an entry is added to the resource cost table that represents current period BCWP. For a new period, this value is calculated by subtracting the sum of all previous values from the new total calculated BCWP. |
| ACWP | This value represents the actual number of labor resource units that have been used by the activity. The Labor Quantity ACWP for the activity is stored in the ACWP_QTY field in the Activity table and is calculated during cost calculation based on one of the following conditions:
|
| EAC | This value represents the total of the estimated and the completed labor quantities for the activity. The Labor Quantity EAC is calculated by adding the estimated to complete quantity (ETC_QTY) to the actual quantity (ACWP_QTY). Both of these values are stored in the Activity table.
The ETC_QTY is calculated by summing the Remaining values on the Assignment table. If the Progress Based on Activity Progress option is selected in the Resource Details dialog box, Open Plan calculates Remaining values during cost calculations. |

Use Version 2 Cost Calculation Method option is selected on the Cost tab of the Project Properties dialog box:
|
| BCWS | This value represents the budgeted cost of labor for the work scheduled for the activity from the baseline start date of the activity until Time Now.
