Creating and Editing Activities

Open Plan allows you to create and edit an activity from any of the following views: network, barchart, and spreadsheet views.

When you create or edit an activity, Open Plan displays the Activity Details dialog box. It includes the following tabs:

  • General
  • Relationships
  • Resources
  • Codes
  • Advanced
  • Risk
  • User Fields
  • Notes

The information you enter using these tabs combine to form an activity definition.

For the Resources and Codes tabs to be enabled, the appropriate ancillary files must first be assigned to the project.

The Activity Details dialog box remains open when performing other operations. For example, you can open the Activity Details dialog box from a network view and view the detailed information for specific activities by clicking them in the view without closing and re-opening the dialog box each time. You can also keep both the Activity Details dialog box and the Activity Progress dialog box open at the same time, updating the information in either dialog box as appropriate.

The dialog box has the following buttons that apply to all tabs:

  • Close: Closes the dialog box, saving any changes.
  • Undo: Cancels any changes on this dialog box that have not been saved using the Apply button.
  • Apply: Applies and saves changes on this dialog box, while leaving the dialog box open for further action. This button is disabled until changes are made.
  • New: Displays a blank Activity Details dialog box. You can specify that the New command will either copy the information for the current activity, or display a blank entry screen for a new activity. To set this option, go to the File menu, click Preferences Application.  On the Edit tab, select the first option in the Activity Dialogs section (Do Not Clear Contents of the Dialog Box When Creating a New Activity).
  • Progress: Displays an Activity Progress dialog box that you can use to enter progress information about the selected activity. By default, the Activity tab of this dialog box is selected.
  • Help: Provides access to the online Help topic for the displayed tab.

In addition, a set of navigation buttons allows you to select another activity. You can also use the following keys on your keyboard to navigate to another activity:

  • Ctrl+Home: Displays the first activity.
  • Page Up: Displays the previous activity.
  • Page Down: Displays the next activity.
  • Ctrl+End: Displays the last activity.
