Deleting and Restoring Projects

PM Compass and Cobra share the same project list to allow for better integration. There may be times when you want the project in only one of the two products. For example, you may want to create a project in PM Compass before creating the Cobra project to use workflows to gain approval for the project. Or you may want to make a copy of a Cobra project to test out Replan (which isn't visible in PM Compass). For this reason, PM Compass uses an identifier on the Cobra project to identify if the project is Cobra only, PM Compass only, or both Cobra and PM Compass.

Backing up and Restoring Cobra Projects

A common practice in Cobra is to backup your project before making major changes such as a Replan. As long as you are just restoring a backup of the project, there's no issue. You cannot restore a different project over a project that is already in PM Compass because the CAWPID (system-generated number in the CAWP table) is used on the workflows and progress entries to link them with the control account or work package. In Cobra, when you restore the same project, the CAWPIDs are not changed. This is why it will let you restore the Cobra project (with the same name) but not restore a backup and change the name to something that already exists in PM Compass.

Deleting and Restoring Cobra Projects

When you delete a Cobra project, a warning lets you know that there is a project in PM Compass (even if there is no pending status in PM Compass), the project in PM Compass becomes a PM Compass-only project, and all progress entries that are linked to a control account or work package are deleted. Thus, you shouldn't delete the Cobra project unless it is finished.

If the PM Compass project uses schedule progress, the progress entries remain when you delete the Cobra project. If you restore the project, the progress entries and security settings are restored.

Backing up and Restoring Open Plan Projects

In Open Plan, the GUIDS are always recreated on a restore which makes the progress entries not link up to the activities.

Deleting and Restoring Open Plan Projects

When you delete a project in Open Plan, the progress entries are deleted. If you restore the project, the orphaned progress entries remain in the database until you delete the PM Compass project.

Deleting a Project in PM Compass

When you delete a project in PM Compass, all associated data, including outstanding VAR reports, is removed. The Cobra project is not deleted and you can make it available again in PM Compass using Project Visibility.
