Trending Backlog Composition Chart

The Trending Backlog Composition chart displays how contract or funded values increase and decrease over a specified period of time. The heights of the columns for each time period indicate the totals for each time period and provide a quick means to view trends in new values, expansions, adjustments, and revenue.

Data Item

Description

New Contracts/Funding

This displays as an increase to backlog; if this is zero for a given period, it does not display.

Expansion

This displays as an increase to backlog; if this is zero for a given period, it does not display.

Contract/Funding Adjustments

This displays either contract or funding adjustments. It can be either an increase or decrease to backlog. If the adjustments are zero for a given period, nothing displays.

Revenue

Revenue displays as a decrease to backlog.

If prior year revenue adjustments are included in the PSR tables, revenue amounts may include those revenue adjustments, depending on how Costpoint Analytics is configured. For more information, see Adjustment Period.

Backlog Type

There are two types of backlog: Contract and Funded.

Backlog defaults to Contract when used initially, but you can switch the type of backlog at any time.

To switch the type of backlog...

  1. Locate the backlog type options.

  2. Click Contract or Funded. The selected option's button turns green, and the pertinent information on the charts and tables updates to reflect your selection.

User Options That Affect the Chart

The following options on the User Options tab affect this chart:

For descriptions of how each option affects Backlog Analytics, see User Options That Affect Backlog.

Focus the Chart

To focus the waterfall chart on a particular set of data points, click and drag the mouse pointer over the chart so that the green selection area touches only the bars that you want to include.Illustration

To focus the chart on a more restricted analysis period, do any of the following:

It is much easier to make selections on the chart itself if you first maximize the chart.

If you use any of the above actions to change the chart, Costpoint Analytics applies the same changes, as appropriate, to all other analytic objects.

Display Data Point Information

To see the backlog and its component amounts as of the end of a specific fiscal period, position the mouse pointer over one of the bars for a fiscal period. When you do, Costpoint Analytics displays the backlog amounts in a small box for the period, beginning backlog, new business, expansion, adjustments, revenue, and ending backlog.

It is much easier to position the mouse pointer over a data point if you first maximize the chart.
