The Trending Backlog Composition chart displays how contract or funded values increase and decrease over a specified period of time. The heights of the columns for each time period indicate the totals for each time period and provide a quick means to view trends in new values, expansions, adjustments, and revenue. |

If the Trending Backlog Composition chart is not visible, click the Trending Composition tab:

Horizontal axis: analysis period |
The horizontal axis displays the analysis period used. |
Vertical axis: current value |
The vertical axis displays the current value for the contract and/or funded backlog that you are comparing. |
Drill-down |
You can drill-down on a filtered item to view its detailed information and period. Double-click the item's graph for a full view of the information. Example To return the chart to the full view of the analysis period, double-click the item's graph. |

Description |
New Contracts/Funding |
This displays as an increase to backlog; if this is zero for a given period, it does not display. |
Expansion |
This displays as an increase to backlog; if this is zero for a given period, it does not display. |
Contract/Funding Adjustments |
This displays either contract or funding adjustments. It can be either an increase or decrease to backlog. If the adjustments are zero for a given period, nothing displays. |
Revenue |
Revenue displays as a decrease to backlog. If prior year revenue adjustments are included in the PSR tables, revenue amounts may include those revenue adjustments, depending on how Costpoint Analytics is configured. For more information, see Adjustment Period. |
There are two types of backlog: Contract and Funded.
Backlog defaults to Contract when used initially, but you can switch the type of backlog at any time.
To switch the type of backlog...
Locate the backlog type options.
Click Contract or Funded. The selected option's button turns green, and the pertinent information on the charts and tables updates to reflect your selection.

To focus the waterfall chart on a particular set of data points, click and drag the mouse pointer over the chart so that the green selection area touches only the bars that you want to include.Illustration
To focus the chart on a more restricted analysis period, do any of the following:
Specify the analysis period using the calendar bars at the top of the tab. Illustration
Click and drag the mouse pointer over the chart bars so that the green selection area touches only the bars for the fiscal periods you want to include. Illustration
If you use any of the above actions to change the chart, Costpoint Analytics applies the same changes, as appropriate, to all other analytic objects.
To see the backlog and its component amounts as of the end of a specific fiscal period, position the mouse pointer over one of the bars for a fiscal period. When you do, Costpoint Analytics displays the backlog amounts in a small box for the period, beginning backlog, new business, expansion, adjustments, revenue, and ending backlog.
Click to send the data underlying the chart to Microsoft Excel. More...
In addition to the actions described above, you can also do the following:
Print the chart.
Email the chart.
Export chart data to a CSV file.
Attach a note to the chart.
