Frequently Asked Questions

These are some frequently asked questions in relation to Fixed Asset management.

  • Q: Can I capitalize an asset more than once?

A: Yes, but only before depreciation starts. Once the first depreciation has been run, the asset cannot receive additional capitalizations.

  • Q: What happens if I run depreciation and the asset is already up to date?

A: Nothing. Depreciation is incremental. It only processes missing periods. If the asset is already depreciated to the target month, no new operations are created.

  • Q: Can I undo a depreciation?

A: No. Only the last capitalization can be undone, and only if no depreciation has occurred yet.

  • Q: Can I undo a disposal?

    A: No. Disposal is irreversible.

  • Q: Can I change the asset group after capitalization?

A: No. The asset group dropdown becomes read-only after capitalization because the group defines the depreciation method and GL accounts that are already in use.

  • Q: What is the “processing month” used for?

A: It determines the target month used when you run depreciation. It also affects the values shown in the asset grid, such as Accumulated depreciation and Current book value, because WorkBook calculates those values based on the selected processing month.

  • Q: How does depreciation work after a revaluation?

A: The depreciation is recalculated based on the new book value and the remaining useful life. For example, if an asset was revalued upward, future depreciation charges will be higher.

  • Q: Can I dispose of multiple assets at once?

A: Yes. Select multiple assets in the grid and click Dispose. The wizard will process all selected eligible assets.

  • Q: What journal entries does each operation create?

A: See the Operations tab on the asset card for the exact postings.
