Reschedule Assignments or Plans in the Projects Hub

To change plan or assignment date ranges, use the Reschedule dialog box in the Projects hub.

To change plan date ranges, display the Reschedule Plan Dates dialog box from the Labor, Expenses, Consultants, and Units tabs of the Plan form. Alternatively, you can change plan dates by using the Gantt chart on the Schedule tab. For more information, see Shift Dates on a Gantt Chart or Change Durations on a Gantt Chart.

To change date ranges for labor and unit assignments, you can display the Reschedule Assignments dialog box from the Labor and Units tab of the Plan form.

When you enter new plan dates or assignment dates, you can also indicate how you want the schedule change to affect the distribution of planned labor and/or unit amounts.

If the plan does not have any planned labor or unit assignments, you can change the plan dates on the Labor, Expenses, Consultants, or Units tab of the Plan form.

After you complete the rescheduling process, you can, if necessary, make changes to the individual hour and quantity distributions on the Labor tab and Units tab of the Plan form in the Projects hub to get them exactly the way you want them. You can also change individual hour distributions in the Resource View or Project View form in Resource Management.

To reschedule assignments or plans in the Projects hub:

  1. In the Navigation pane, select Hubs > Projects > Plan.
  2. On the Plan form, use the Find project lookup field to search for and select the project for which you want to change assignment dates or plan dates.
  3. On the Actions bar, click Check Out.
  4. Do one of the following:
    • To change labor or unit assignment dates, go to the Labor or Units tab.
    • To change plan dates, go to the Labor, Expenses, Consultants, or Units tab.
  5. Expand the plan structure to display the plan row for which you want to change plan dates or assignment dates.
  6. To display the Reschedule dialog box, do one of the following:
    • On the plan row, change one of the dates and then press TAB or click out of the field.
    • Hover over or click the plan row, click at the end of the row, and click Reschedule.
  7. On the Reschedule dialog box, do one of the following:
    • To change the dates but keep the same number of working days between the start and end date and keep the same distribution of planned hours and units, select Shift.
    • To lengthen or shorten the plan date range or assignment date range, select Change Duration.
  8. If you selected Change Duration option, select one of the following options:
    • If you are rescheduling labor assignment dates and you want to spread the affected planned labor hours and amounts evenly over the new date range, select the Distribute Labor Hours and Amounts Evenly. To keep the current distribution of planned hours and amounts, select Don't Redistribute Labor Hours and Amounts.
    • If you are rescheduling unit assignment dates and want to spread the affected planned unit quantities and amounts evenly over the new date range, select Distribute Quantity and Amounts Evenly. To keep the current distribution of planned unit quantities and amounts, select Don't Redistribute Quantity and Amounts.
    • If you are rescheduling plan dates and want to spread the affected planned labor and units evenly on all child assignments whose date range changes, select Redistribute Evenly on Changed Assignments. To keep the current distribution of planned labor and planned unit amounts, select Don't Redistribute.
  9. If you selected the Shift option and want to shift only a part of the current date range, you can change one or both of the dates in the From This Assignment Date Range or From This Plan Date Range fields.
If you do not change these dates, the entire date range is shifted.
  10. In the To This Assignment Date Range or To This Plan Date Range fields, enter or select the new assignment or plan date range for the plan row.

If you selected the Shift option, select either a new start date or a new end date. Vantagepoint determines the other date, while keeping the same number of working days in the range.

If you selected the Change Duration option, select both the start date and end date for the range.

  11. If you are rescheduling plan dates and selected the Change Duration option, and you want to change the plan dates or assignment dates for all the child rows to match the new plan dates for the parent row, select Replace All Child Dates with New Parent Dates.
  12. To complete the rescheduling process, click Reschedule.
If either of the following scenarios exist, Vantagepoint displays a warning message. You can then continue or cancel the reschedule process.
    • If planned hours and units exist before or after the current plan dates, Vantagepoint warns that the plan dates will be updated for the selected WBS level along with any affected parent levels.
    • If the level being updated is a predecessor in a dependency relationship or has a parent or child that is a predecessor and there will be changes to other levels (in a different branch) based on the existing dependencies, Vantagepoint warns that the plan dates will be updated for this level along with any affected parent or child levels. In addition, since this level, a parent level, or a child level has dependency relationships, successors will shift based on their relationship.
