Transfer Settings Utility

This feature will be available to all Vantagepoint customers in a future release.

Use this utility to transfer settings from one Vantagepoint database to another Vantagepoint database.

For example, you can transfer settings from a Vantagepoint preview or sandbox database to a Vantagepoint production database. A common scenario is to test settings and the related processing in a preview or sandbox database while employees continue to work in the production database. Then when you are ready to make changes to the settings in the production database, you can easily transfer the settings from the preview or sandbox database to the production database using the Transfer Settings utility.

Terminology

The following terminology is used for Transfer Settings utility:

  • Production database: This is the current version of your Vantagepoint working database in which you process your daily business transactions.
  • Sandbox database: This is a copy of your current Vantagepoint database that you use only for testing purposes.
  • Preview database: This is a copy of your Vantagepoint or Vision production database that has been upgraded to a newer Vantagepoint version to use for testing the new version before you upgrade your Vantagepoint or Vision production database to the new Vantagepoint version.
  • Source database: This is the database, typically a preview or sandbox database, that you transfer settings from.
  • Target database: This is the database, typically a production database, that you transfer settings to.
  • Settings file: This is the file that contains the settings to transfer from a source database to a target database. In a Vantagepoint source database, you export settings from the source database to a settings file. In a Vantagepoint target database, you import the settings from the settings file to the target database.

Transfer Setting Process

The Transfer Settings process involves the following steps:

  1. Open the Vantagepoint database from which to transfer settings (source database). In the Transfer Settings utility, use the export option to generate a settings file that contains the settings to transfer.
  2. Open the Vantagepoint database that you want to transfer the settings to (target database). In the Transfer Settings utility, use the import option to transfer the settings in the settings file that you created in step 1 to the target database.
