Open Plan Explorer Overview

The Open Plan Explorer provides a familiar graphical user interface (GUI) similar to Windows Explorer.

This type of interface enables you to work in your own way. Although it is possible to open files, set up projects, and perform other functions in Open Plan without using the Open Plan Explorer, it is convenient to open and manipulate files without having to remember a precise filename.

In the Open Plan Explorer, there are two panes with a moveable splitter bar between them. The left pane displays a hierarchy of nested folders through which you can navigate. The right pane displays the contents of the currently selected object.

Refresh from the database Changes you will see
Projects folder
  • Add, update, or delete a project, or the ancillary files of the projects.
  • You will see only the projects and the ancillary files, provided you have been granted access rights to them.
Open Plan Library folder
  • Add, update, or delete calendar, code, resource, and view files.
    • When you open the code files in Shared mode (on a project also opened in Shared mode) and another user updates or adds code values, Open Plan enables all users who are working on a project simultaneously to see the updated code values. You can view the updated values, however, only when you refresh the project data.
    • When you open the code files in Read Only mode (on the project opened in Shared mode) and another user makes changes to the code file, you can still refresh the project data. Open Plan refreshes the read only code data as well.
  • Add, update, or delete project templates.
  • You will see only the files that you have been granted  access rights.
Available menu options The refresh button also refreshes the available options on the menus in Open Plan from the database if they have changed.

Open a View...

Use this drop-down list, located above the hierarchical pane, as an alternate way to open a project view. Your favorites are listed first and in bold, followed by all other views. You can use the Organize Favorites dialog box to add or remove favorites and to specify the order in which your favorites are listed.

Refresh

Use this button to refresh the contents of the Projects and Open Plan Library folders as well as the options on the menus as configured in EPM Security Administrator (EPM SA).
