Opening a Project or Ancillary File
When you open a project, all ancillary files associated with the project are also opened.
It is also possible to open an ancillary file or view without first having to open the project.
There are two ways to open project or ancillary files:
- By using the File Open dialog box
- By right-clicking a project or ancillary file in Open Plan Explorer and using the Open command on the shortcut menu
Open Plan always attempts to open a project’s ancillary files in the mode specified on the Preferences tab of the file's properties. This setting overrides the default access mode of the ancillary file's properties.
In some cases, if you attempt to open a file in shared mode and another user already has the file open in exclusive mode, Open Plan allows you to open the file in read-only mode or to cancel the operation.
Note: You can open the files in different access modes:
Exclusive,
Shared, and
Read Only.
Attention: For more information about the different access modes when you open a file, see
Opening a File.
