Owner Delegate Role

Use the Owner Delegate role to enable other users to act as the owner when the file owner is not available. This role displays in the list of roles that can be assigned on any Access Control screen in Open Plan.

The Owner Delegate role affects three areas of Open Plan:

  • Object Security: If you are the Owner Delegate of an object, you have the same access control to a file as the user assigned as the Owner. You can share file backups across organizations and change the file access control rights without being in the SYSADMIN group. You cannot change the file owner.
  • Project Baseline Security: If you are the Owner Delegate of a project, you may edit the project baselines access control information.
  • Restore Process: You may restore an object that you do not have rights to if you currently have the Owner Delegate role on an existing object with the same name in the database. This enables you to restore backups from previous versions of the software which did not support the Owner Delegate role. The restore process also transfers any existing Owner Delegate assignments on existing objects to the restored objects as part of the restore process.
