Edit a Document

You check out a document from the DMS to edit it. When you check a document out, the file is locked to prevent other users from editing it.

You must have write access on the document that you want to edit.

To edit a document:

  1. Navigate to the Information Zone.
    If Smart View is not enabled, use the Smart View slider to toggle it on.
  2. Search for the document.
    For information, see Searching for Documents.
  3. Click .
    If you are using Internet Explorer, the document automatically opens in its associated application. For all other browsers, you are prompted to save the document to your PC. After you save the document, you then open it.
    Note: If the document is a project document, and it was added to the project's DLM, you must edit the document through the DLM.
  4. Edit the document, as required.
  5. Save and close the document.
