Working with Multiselect Drop-down Lists and Lookups

A multiselect drop-down list allows you to add, delete, copy and paste, and filter long lists of values using the Search application in many Vantagepoint hubs and applications. Use multiselect drop-down lists to quickly build complex searches.

Typically, you access a multiselect drop-down list from the Add Value field in the Search Criteria grid on the Search dialog box. The values available vary, depending on the type of field, or grid field, that you select.

Selecting and Clearing Values

Each multiselect drop-down list includes a checkbox to the left of each value in the list. These checkboxes act as toggles for selecting and clearing (de-selecting) values.

To do this Take this action
Select or clear one or more values. Click a value's checkbox to select it.

Click the value's checkbox a second time to clear it.

Select or clear multiple non-contiguous values. Use CTRL + click.
Select or clear multiple contiguous values, or all the values. Use SHIFT + click.

For more information, see Select Values in Multiselect Drop-Down Lists and Lookups.

Copying and Pasting for Reuse

You can copy and paste multiple values and delimited search strings for reuse in any multiselect drop-down list, lookup, hub search, or application search, as well as in spreadsheet or word processing applications such as Excel, Google Sheets, or Word.

For more information, see Copy and Paste Selected Values from Multiselect Drop-Down Lists.

Filtering Values with Semicolons

When you build more complex searches, you can filter values in multiselect drop-down lists by adding delimited search strings that use semicolon separators.

For example, you can add a search string in a series (such as, "value1; value2; value3;") or use multiple search strings such as "a;" and "a;b;c;d" and "a; the; Smith".

Partial Delimited Search Strings

You could also add a partial string, such as"Belmont Park;".

When you enter a partial delimited search string, Vantagepoint returns all values that are an exact match of the delimited string plus any additional values that share only a portion of the delimited string.

For example, If you enter "Belmont Park;" the following values are returned:
  • Belmont Park
  • Belmont Park Grandstand
  • Belmont Park Recreation Department
  • Belmont Park Surveying Services

Because these matches for Belmont Park only share a portion of a delimited string, they are not unique and therefore are not displayed as pills. Instead, they appear as slightly larger text in the Add Value field.
