Step 1 Tab

Use this tab to view the Step 1: Personal Information section of the W-4.

Personal Information

Field Description
(a) First name and middle initial This field displays the employee's first name and middle initial.
Last name This field displays the employee's last name.
(b) Social security number Displays the social security number (SSN) for the employee. The employee may change their SSN if the functionality is enabled on the Configure Taxable Entity Settings.
Address

This section displays the following:

  • Address 1, 2, and 3: This non-editable row displays the home address (or mailing address if home and mailing addresses are the same).
  • City: This field displays the city for the home address (or mailing address if home and mailing addresses are the same).
  • State: This field displays the state for the home address (or mailing address if home and mailing addresses are the same).
  • ZIP Code: This field displays the zip code for the home address (or mailing address if home and mailing addresses are the same).
Filing Status

Select one of the radio buttons to declare their federal withholding status. This assists in determining the amount of tax withheld from the employee's paycheck. The Exempt from federal taxes option may be selected if the functionality is enabled on the Manage Taxable Entity Settings screen.

Options are:

  • Single or Married filing separately
  • Married filing jointly or Qualifying surviving spouse
  • Head of household (Check only if you're unmarried and pay more than half the costs of keeping up a home for yourself and a qualifying individual)
  • Exempt from federal taxes
I have reviewed the information for Step 1 The checkbox allows the employee to indicate they have reviewed the information for Step 1. You must select this checkbox in order for the employee to electronically sign the W-4.
