Shift Premium Field Descriptions
Level Number
This field displays the order in which the Shift Premium records were created. The earliest record has number 1.
Shift Premium Basis
Defines the method used to award premiums to an employee. Valid options are Percentage, Monetary, and None. If this field is set to None, it is assumed you are using Elapsed Time Entry.
The Shift Premium Amount determines the premium for working off-shift. The premium can be monetary or percentage and is based off the employee's base rate. Note that a person's base rate is defined on the Pay Class form and assigned to the person via the Pay Scale tab of the Employee form.
This field displays a % amount when your Shift Premium Basis is Percentage and a monetary amount when your Shift Premium Basis is Monetary.
If Shift Premium Basis is set to Percentage, valid entries are from 0 through 100 (0% to 100%). For example: If the employee makes 12.75 per hour and the Shift Premium Amount is defined as 10, the employee will receive an additional 10% or 1.275 per hour for the off-shift time.
If Shift Premium Basis is set to Monetary, valid entries are from 0 through 99.99. For example: If the Shift Premium Amount is defined as a flat 2.00, the employee will receive an additional 2.00 per hour for the off-shift time.
Prem. Rounding Dir.
The Premium Rounding Direction is used when the Shift Premium Basis is Percentage. It indicates whether the system is to round Up, Down, Nearest, or Truncate the premium amounts when the resulting calculation exceeds the precision of the monetary field.
For example: If the employee earns 12.75 per hour, Shift Premium Basis is Percentage, and the Shift Premium Amount is 10 (10%), the premium would be 1.275 per hour. The Rounding Direction would calculate this premium as follows:
Up: Premium is posted as 1.28 per hour
Down: Premium is posted as 1.27 per hour
Nearest: Premium is posted as 1.28 per hour
Truncate: Premium is posted as 1.27 per hour
Pay Designator
The Pay Designator provides the link between the application and the external Payroll System. It indicates how and why monetary amounts are calculated for the employee.
