Use this reference to learn about the rules and mechanics in working with option sets and affected content.

When working with option sets, the following rules apply:

Button Description
Paragraph
  • A paragraph can have one or multiple option sets.
  • For product type properties, your selections and entries in an option set can aid in your product selection for your project.
Option Set
  • An option set consists of one or more options. Each option has one of the following insert types:
    • Pill
    • Text Field
    • Unit of Measure (UOM) Field
  • An option set has one of the following resolution types:
    • Resolved: The option set has selections and/or entries in any one of its options.
    • Unresolved: The option set does not have any selections or entries. In the section preview and exported project section, all options are in bold to emphasize the open options.
  • Your selections in one option set can trigger automated changes in another option set, within or outside its paragraph.
  • Your selections and entries in an option set can aid in your product selection for your project.
Pill

(Option 1)

  • Options ((Option)) display as pills or ovals in the new workspace editor or on the element form.
  • Pills have the following states based on your selection:
    • Default
    • Selected
    • Inactive

    See Option States.

In the project workspace, a pill displays in a specific color based on its selection state. In the section preview and exported project section, the pill's value displays in a specific format based on its selection state.

  • To clear a selection, click the selected pills.
Text Field or Insert Option

[Insert]

  • When you enter a value in a text field ([Insert]), the text field displays as a selected pill ((Option)).
  • To clear an entry, click the text field entry.
Unit of Measure (UOM) Field

[Unit A] [Unit B]

  • Typically, a UOM field consists of two text boxes ([Unit A] [Unit B]) for the two systems of measure, Imperial or Metric. Both or either box display depending on the selected measurement standard in the project's settings.
  • Enter both the measurement value and unit, as needed, for both standards.

Product Selection Interactions

For product type properties, your option set selections aid in the product selection of your A/E firm's project specifications. When you select an option, Specpoint filters the product listings in the Product Listings window to show only listings that have option/value selections for their product properties that match your selection in the product type property paragraph. This ensures that you can only select product listings that fit the product requirements that you specified.

Likewise, in the Product Listings window, when you add a product listing to your project, option sets of associated product type properties will have options selected that match the product properties of the added listing. This automated change does not apply to product type properties in which you already selected options from their option sets.
