Restore Guidelines
Cobra follows a set of rules when performing the Restore process.
Restoring Projects
The rules for restoring projects are as follows:
- You cannot restore a combination of legacy and BK file extensions in a single Restore API process (*.BKCP and .CMP). A single Restore API process must only contain files with the BK file extensions or legacy file extensions.
- The Restore process does not proceed if the user has no access to the project being restored or rights to the Restore securable options in EPM Security Administrator or PPM Administrator.
- When restoring multiple projects, the Restore process excludes invalid project backup files.
Restoring Reports and Configurations
The rules for restoring reports and configurations are as follows:
- You cannot have two shared files with the same name, regardless of the users or groups they are shared with.
- Restoring as a SYSADMIN user uses the owner on the backup file as the OWNER of the file being restored.
- Restoring as a non-SYSADMIN user uses the currently logged-in user as the OWNER of the file being restored.
- The access control information of the backup file is always restored. You cannot restore a shared report as personal.
- If a shared report or configuration with the same name exists:
- If the shared report or configuration belongs to a different owner, Cobra displays a message to restore the file using another name.
- If the shared report or configuration belongs to the same owner, Cobra displays a confirmation prompt to overwrite the existing file.
- If a shared report or configuration with the same name does not exist and a personal report which belongs to the same owner with the same name exists, Cobra displays a confirmation prompt to overwrite the existing file.
- If a personal or shared report or configuration with the same name exists and belongs to the same owner, Cobra displays a confirmation prompt to overwrite the existing file.
- When you restore a report or configuration with a filename that exceeds 22 characters, Cobra truncates the filename to 22 characters in the Project column of the Process Log entry.
Note: Use the Process Log Viewer dialog box to view the log files generated by the Restore process.
