File Extensions

Cobra uses file extensions to identify which file type you are backing up or restoring.

BK File Types and Extensions

Cobra uses the BK file extension when backing up file, depending on the Cobra file type.

Cobra File File Type Extension
Cost Data, Integration, and wInsight Configurations Configuration Backups *.BKCC
Master Projects and Projects Project Backups *.BKCP
Reports, Batch Reports, Filters, and Sorts Report Backups *.BKCR

Legacy File Extensions

Backup files created prior to Cobra 8.5 used the legacy file extensions. When you restore a legacy backup file, Cobra informs you that it needs to create a copy of the legacy backup file with a BK file extension before it proceeds with the Restore process.

Cobra proceeds to create the converted BK file that it will use to run the Restore process. Cobra uses the following format for the default file name of the converted BK file: <Legacy backup filename with extension>.<Cobra BK file extension>.

The converted BK file extension is based on the legacy backup file. For example, when you restore Demo Advanced.CMP, the converted BK filename is Demo Advanced.CMP.BKCP.

Attention: For more information on how to restore legacy backup files, see Restore Data from a Legacy Backup File.
