Saving Files

Open Plan provides two ways to save files.

Below are the commands that enable you to save files:

  • Save As: You can save the file with a new name. This command is frequently used to copy a file.

You cannot perform Save As on a file if there is another file open which refers to it. For example, if you open project CLEAN and then try to perform a Save As on the calendar file CLEANCAL, you receive the following warning message: "Cannot perform Save As on Calendar File CLEANCAL because there are open objects referring to it." Because CLEAN refers to CLEANCAL, you need to close the project before you can perform Save As on CLEANCAL.

  • Save: You can save the file using its current name, provided that it is open in Exclusive mode. If you opened the file in the Read Only mode, the Save command is not available.

The conditions under which the Save command is available depend on the mode in which you opened the file:

    • Exclusive: If you opened the file in Exclusive mode, you can use the Save command at any time.
    • Shared: If you opened the file in Shared mode, Open Plan tries to save the data whenever you edit something and click OK. If another user has made a change to the record that you have displayed, Open Plan displays a message alerting you to this circumstance and refreshes the data. This enables you to view the changes made by another user before you make additional modifications. For more information about working with files opened in Shared mode, see Working in Shared Mode.
