Use this procedure to create a code file.

Display the New File dialog box by taking one of the following actions.
- Double-click an empty area in either pane of the Open Plan Explorer.
- On the
File menu, click
.
- Press the
Ctrl+N keys.
- Click the
New
button on the Quick Access Toolbar, and select
Code File from the drop-down list.
- If you are creating a project using the New File Wizard, click the
New button in the Select dialog box of the Files page.

From the
File Type field, select
Code.

Enter a name and description for the code file.

Take one of the following actions:
- To create a basic code file using Open Plan default settings, click
Finish.
- To enter detailed information about the code file using the New File Wizard, click
Next, and proceed to the next step.
You can always enter this detailed information at a later time using the Code File Properties dialog box.

On the first page of the New File wizard, set the following options:
- From the list, select the default access mode for the code file.
- Select whether to create an original new code file or create a code file as a copy of an existing one. If you are creating the new code file as a copy of an existing one, you must also select the code file that you want to use as a template.
- Select a startup view.
- Enter the default prompt text that is automatically used in the Code File Prompt dialog box that displays when you attach a code file to a project or resource file.

Next.

Complete the remaining pages of the wizard.
