Exporting Data to Primavera P6
Use the Oracle Primavera Export wizard to export to an XER file or to a P6 Web environment.
The Export Oracle Primavera command on the Integration tab is disabled until you open the Open Plan project that you want to export.
For web exports, the project must have been previously imported into Open Plan from P6 Web and must be open in Open Plan at the time of the export. The Oracle Primavera export icon is disabled until a project is opened in Open Plan.
Exporting Open Plan Activity Status to Oracle Primavera P6
You can export from an Open Plan project to an Oracle Primavera P6 XER file or P6 Web.
- Web export: A P6 web export exports only activity status/resource assignment status. The project that you are exporting must have previously been imported into Open Plan from P6.
- XER export: An XER export exports the entire Open Plan project. In addition to the set fields, you can define user fields (including code-related user fields) that you can map for export to a P6 XER file. You can save these user fields to group options so that the next time you perform an XER export, you do not have to define them again. You can also select one or more baselines to export to the XER file.
Display the first page of the Oracle Primavera P6 Export wizard by clicking Oracle Primavera on the Integration tab Export menu group.
Baseline
An Open Plan baseline is not a complete project as it is in Primavera P6. It is a snapshot of the activity and resource usage tables. When you export a baseline from Open Plan and import it into P6, the P6 activity and resource assignment tables are populated in the created or updated P6 project representing the baseline project.
Calendars
For a web export, Open Plan's default is to export all the calendars in the calendar file assigned to the project whether or not they are being used by an activity. If you would like Open Plan to export only those calendars that are being referenced by the data being exported, you must add
_EXPORT_ONLY_P6_CALS_IN_USE with a value of
1 to the System Preferences dialog box. You can access this dialog box by clicking
, selecting
, and clicking the Advanced tab.
For an XER export, the _EXPORT_ONLY_P6_CALS_IN_USE setting is ignored and Open Plan will always export only those calendars that are being referenced by the data being exported.
Resources
By default, Open Plan exports all the resources in the resource file assigned to the project whether or not they are being used by an activity. If you want Open Plan to export only those resources that are being referenced by the data being exported, you must add
_EXPORT_ONLY_P6_RES_IN_USE with a value of
1 to the System Preferences dialog box. You can access this dialog box by clicking
, selecting
, and clicking the Advanced tab.
Repeating Holidays
Primavera P6 does not support repeating holidays. When data is exported to P6, repeating holidays display only for the period of the project.
View Exported Data
If you want to review the data that was exported to Oracle Primavera P6, add
_KEEP_P6_OUTPUT_FILES with a value of
1 to the System Preferences dialog box. You can access this dialog box by clicking
, selecting
, and clicking the Advanced tab. Open Plan creates CSV integration files and saves them to the Open Plan working folder (for example,
). Each file has a unique name that includes the Primavera P6 project name and a time stamp.
Confirming Resource Settings
To successfully export resource remaining costs and quantities to P6, you must confirm some resource settings. P6 has options that prevent you from writing to these fields depending on how they are set. The options are:
- Calculate Costs from Units
- Auto Compute Actuals
Make sure that these options are not enabled on the resource. You should confirm these settings prior to building your schedule because P6 seems to remember the settings even if they have been changed.
