Link a Regular Project to an Existing Promotional Project

Use the Linked Project field to link a regular project to an existing promotional project.

You can use the following steps to link a regular project to an existing promotional project, whether or not either or both of the projects are currently linked to another project.

To link a regular project to an existing promotional project:

  1. In the Navigation pane, select Hubs > Projects > Project.
  2. At the top of the Projects form, enter either a complete or partial name or number in the Find project lookup field to find and select the project that you want to link to a promotional project.
  3. On the Overview tab, click next to the Linked Project field.
  4. Select the promotional project to which you want to link the regular project.

If the regular project was not previously linked to another promotional project and if the promotional project you selected does not have any job-to-date (JTD) charges, the link is created, and some field values for the promotional project are updated to match the corresponding values for the regular project.

If the regular project was previously linked to a promotional project or if the promotional project you selected has JTD charges, Vantagepoint displays a message asking you to confirm that you want to create the link. Click Change Link or Link, whichever displays, to confirm the action.

Depending on the projects involved, Vantagepoint may do one or both of the following in addition to creating the new link:
    • If the regular project was currently linked to a different promotional project, that link is removed before the new one is created. Note that no other data is changed for the unlinked promotional project. Field values that were set to match values for the regular project when the two were linked will remain the same after the link is removed. If that is not what you want, select that promotional project and make the necessary changes.
    • If the promotional project to which you are linking the regular project is currently linked to another regular project, that link is removed before the new one is created.
