Sorting Records in Projects Hub List View

Because of the work breakdown structure (WBS), sorting records in List View for the Projects hub is different than sorting them for other hubs.

In all hubs, you change how records are sorted in List View by clicking on the heading of the column that you want to sort by. In the Projects hub, however, the sorting is applied differently because List View normally displays records in a hierarchical sequence based on the WBS for each project:
  • The first time you display List View in the Projects hub, the projects are sorted by project name or project number, whichever option you have selected under Project Search List Sort Order on the My Preferences dialog box. Regardless of how projects are sorted, phases are sorted by number under each project, and tasks are sorted by number under each phase.
  • To sort the projects by a different value, click the heading of the column that you want to sort by. (Click the heading again to switch from ascending to descending order.) Changing the sort order only affects the order of the projects. The WBS hierarchy of each project is preserved. Phases and tasks are still listed in number order under their project.
  • If you click to enable column filtering, List View changes from a hierarchical list to a flat list. If you change the sort order in that situation, the new order applies to all rows, not just the project rows. As a result, the WBS hierarchies may not be preserved. However, when you disable column filtering again, the current sort order remains in effect for the project rows, but the phases and tasks once more display in number order under their project.
  • Each time you change the sort order, that order becomes your new default order until you change it again.
