Activities that you add in Open Plan while you are modeling changes can be linked to a control account or work package, or not linked. An activity is linked if it logically rolls up to a control account or work package. That is, it contains resources that are rolled up to form part of the cost or otherwise helps define the work under the control account or work package. Activities that are not linked are considered a "Schedule Only Change."
If you have many activities linked to a work package and you add a new activity, you want the work package dates updated to span all of the activities linked to the work package. To do this, you need to put something in the PMC Update Baseline Dates in Open Plan for all activities linked to that work package. If you do not do this, the work package dates are updated to span only the new activity.
Similarly, if you edit an activity linked to a work package (for example, you add a target date or change the activity duration), and you want the work package dates to be updated to reflect the change, you must enter a Yes or Y in the PMC Update Baseline Dates field and select the Automatically Update Baseline Dates When a Change Causes the Activity Dates to Change option in Change Details on Form tab of Workflow Type Configuration. Alternatively, if you do not want to update the baseline dates on the existing activities, you must enter something in the PMC Include in Baseline field for the other linked activities. This adds the other activities to the change baseline with the existing activity baseline dates. The integration then updates the work package dates to span the original activity baseline dates and include the new activity.
If Limit the Work Package to One Activity on the Projects Form Schedule Integration tab is selected and you add additional activities under a work package, PM Compass displays an error message when you click Save.
