Procedures for Plans

You can create a plan from scratch or base a new plan on an existing plan, project, or opportunity.

  • Open a Plan
    You can open any plan for which you have the appropriate security rights.
  • Change the Plan Retrieval Mode
    Use the Plan Retrieval Mode dialog box to select the method Vision should use to retrieve the plan data. When you minimize the amount of data retrieved, Vision pulls information from the database at a much faster pace.
  • Create a New Plan
    You can create a new plan from scratch at any time.
  • Copy and Modify a Plan to Create a New Plan
    You can create a new plan based on an existing plan.
  • Create a New Plan from a Project
    You can create a new plan from one or more existing projects. When you create a new plan from a project, you use options on the Create Plan from Project dialog box to specify the amount of detail that Vision copies.
  • Create a New Plan from Multiple Projects
    When you create a new plan from multiple projects, cost amounts and fees in the new plan are the sum of the costs and fees for all selected projects. The plan's start date is the earliest start date of the start dates for the selected projects and the end date for the plan is the latest project end date.
  • Create a New Plan from an Opportunity
    If you use Vision CRM, you can create a new plan from an opportunity. This feature makes it possible for you to carry over all prior relationships from the opportunity record into the plan.
  • Check in a Plan That is Checked Out to Another Person
    There may be situations where a plan is checked out to a user and other team members need immediate access to the plan. If your security role includes Administrative rights, you can override the current user and check in the plan. Use this feature only when absolutely necessary.
  • Schedule the Plan
    By default, Vision uses the start date that you select for the plan as both the start and end date for each element in the WBS. When you schedule the plan, you enter new dates for each element at the lowest level of the WBS. Vision automatically calculates dates for elements at higher levels.
  • Shift Planned Assignments
    As plans evolve, you can change and shift assignment dates on the Planning grids. You can only use the Shift feature if the current plan is checked out to you.
  • Review a Project
    When you use the Labor tab of Project Planning, plan rows that are mapped to a project, phase, or task can be viewed in detail in the Project Review dialog box. Use this dialog box to see an overview of the project's numbers without running a report. For example, you might use Project Review to compare actuals to budgeted figures. You can also update overall percent complete figures through Project Review.
  • Print a Plan Record
    You can print plan information from Project Planning.
  • Delete a Plan Record
    When you delete a plan record, all corresponding custom tabs, fields, and grids are also deleted from the Vision database. Your system administrator can create workflow alerts to trigger in specific situations. For example, when you delete a plan, an alert could notify your manager of the deletion.
