Create a New Plan from an Opportunity

If you use Vision CRM, you can create a new plan from an opportunity. This feature makes it possible for you to carry over all prior relationships from the opportunity record into the plan.

To use an opportunity as the basis for a new plan, complete the following steps:

  1. From the Vision Navigation menu, click Planning > Project Planning.
  2. On the Project Planning form, click New > New Plan from Existing Opportunity.
  3. On the Create Plan from Opportunity dialog box, click Search to use the Opportunity Lookup dialog box to select the opportunity to serve as the basis of the new plan.

You can create a new plan using an existing plan template. A plan template contains a pre-defined Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) as well as pre-defined data values that are automatically transferred to the new plan record. This saves time and ensures that new plan data is accurate and consistent. However, planned hours, cost, and billing information are not carried over from the plan template; you must enter this data for each individual plan.

  4. Click Search to use the Plan Lookup dialog box to select the plan that will serve as the template for the new plan.
  5. In the Plan Name field, enter a name for the new plan.
  6. In the Plan Number field, enter a number for the new plan.
  7. From the drop-down list for the Plan Calendar Scale field, select the major/minor time scale for the accordion calendar of the new plan.

The time scale applies for one year, starting from the current date.

  8. To include the opportunity's service estimate in the new plan, select the Copy Service Estimate into Plan option.

All information from the Service Estimates tab in the Opportunity Info Center is included in the new plan, and the opportunity's labor categories are automatically grouped together. When you select this option, Vision disables the Template Plan field.

  9. Click OK on the Create Plan from Opportunity dialog box.

Vision creates the new plan based on your settings.

  10. Complete the tabs of the Project Planning form.
  11. Click Save.
