Using the Help Search
  • Phrase:Returns all topics that contain the exact phrase in the search criteria. Use quotation marks around the phrase.
    Ex."system administration"
  • And:Returns all topics that contain all the words in the search criteria, in any combination. Insert a plus sign between all words in the search criteria.
    Ex.system + administration
  • Or:Returns all topics with any combination of words in the search criteria. This is the default.

Troubleshoot Grouped Conditions

When using Advanced Settings, you can group multiple conditions to set the order of operations within the query that you are creating for the search.

Grouping enables the And and Or conditions for building the search. If the conditions are not structured or ordered properly, you cannot create a group. Refer to the following scenarios for potential issues and solutions when creating groups.

Action Issue Solution
Group button is disabled. Row is not selected. Select the checkbox next to a condition in the grid.
Rows 1, 4, and 5 are selected. Rows are not in order. Reorder rows so they are contiguous in the grid.
Rows 1 and 2 are selected and grouped. Click rows 2 and 3 and try to group. Row 3 is outside of the group and you selected one or more rows within an existing group. Ungroup the existing group and then select all rows and click Group.
Rows 1 and 2 are grouped and rows 3 and 4 are grouped. You select rows 2 and 3 and group. You cannot intersect two different groups. Create a nested grouping. Select rows 1, 2, 3, and 4 and click Group.
Rows 1, 2, 3, and 4 are grouped and you click Group. You cannot select all rows for a group more than once. You cannot create a group more than once. Change your selection criteria.
