Shared Risk Register

This topic discusses the new shared risk register capability.

You can share your risk register between multiple projects and cost estimates. This allows you to make changes in one place while affecting all projects and cost estimates that use it. In addition, you can still have as many risk registers as you need.

Note: To take advantage of the new shared risk register capability, the With a copy of Risk Register and Without a copy of Risk Register menu options were removed from S3 // Risk.

To share a risk register between multiple projects, right-click a risk register for the menu to appear. You will have three options to choose from.

  • Copy: This creates a copy of the risk register. You will need to assign a schedule or cost estimate to this copy after its creation.
  • Rename: This allows you to rename the selected risk register.
  • Delete: This allows you to delete a risk register.
    • If you cannot delete a risk register, an error message is displayed.
    • If you can delete a risk register, a confirmation dialog box is displayed.

Move a project or cost estimate to the newly copied risk register by right clicking your chosen project or cost estimate and choosing the move option from the popup menu. Once the project or cost estimate is moved, its impacts are recalculated to reflect the values in the newly copied risk register.

Support for Shared Risk Register

Support has been added under S3 // Risk » Import/Publish » Microsoft Excel for shared risk registers. The menu options to Import or Export a risk register are enabled when you do either of the following:

  • Select a risk register from the tree view.
  • Select a project from the tree view and display the risk register in either the right or left panel.

Exporting a Risk Register

When you export a shared risk register, a Project column is displayed on the Links tab of the exported Excel file. When you export a non-shared risk register, the Project column will not be displayed.

Importing a Risk Register

When you import an Excel risk register that has the Project column, the mappings will use the project and activity ID to match risk mappings to activities/cost items. When you import an Excel file that does not have the Project column, Acumen will match the mappings based on the Activity ID.
