To create the Open Plan resource assignments correctly, you must have the following set up before you start the change request:
EPM SA credentials for PM Compass to connect to Open Plan: You must enter a username and password (do not use a blank password) on the EPM SA System Settings General tab. PM Compass uses this login information to apply changes and run processes, such as time analysis, for projects being managed by PM Compass. This login is only used for processing purposes and is not used for access control.
In order to prevent access errors during data entry, the user must have full rights to Open Plan and all projects. Deltek highly recommends that the user be a member of the SYSADMIN group.
The Open Plan calendar must match the Cobra Calendar: It is very important that the Open Plan reporting calendar exactly matches the calendar in Cobra. Open Plan's month-end periods must line up with Cobra's month-end periods.
If you are using rolling wave (weekly earned value) in Cobra, you will need to export the weekly calendar to Open Plan. When you look at the Open Plan time phased data, all budget appears in the last week. When the data comes over to Cobra, it will appear in the correct period.
Time Now in the Open Plan project must be the day after the status date in the Cobra project. This ensures that the early dates in the schedule are as expected.
When creating the change request, the data entered on the Costs tab is used to calculate offsets and periods for the Open Plan resources assignments using the early start date of the activity and the working days for each period in the time phased view. If the early start date of an activity changes after editing the time phased costs, the offsets and periods will not match the Costs tab. If the duration of the activity is reduced, an error message will display.
To ensure the calculated offsets and periods match the data as entered in the time phased view, the following must occur:
All changes to activities such as editing durations, relationships, constraint dates, and so on, should be performed before editing the time phased costs.
When the scheduler approves the change, care needs to be taken that all new activities have either constraint dates or predecessor relationships so that the early start date is calculated the same as it was in PM Compass.
The change request must be approved before progressing or other changes to the schedule will change the calculated early start date of the activities.
To edit the data on the Costs tab after going to the scheduler, you must click Edit Schedule so that the offsets and periods on the resource assignments can be updated. This will require the scheduler to reapprove the change in Open Plan.
To view the offsets and periods that are created on the resource assignments in PM Compass, you must exit and reopen the Change Details view. The original curve is not preserved in this process. A resource assignment row is added per period with a linear curve for each period.
